Five Ingredients to Avoid in Your Skincare Routine: Here is What Experts Say
Beauty experts often advise us to check the ingredients of the products before we purchase.

We are always on the lookout for the perfect products for our skin. We want to treat our skin to the best of everything for that long-lasting glow. In order to get the skin of our dreams, we spend hours following the step-by-step skincare routine and also switch to natural remedies but still fail. Beauty experts often advise us to check the ingredients of the products before we purchase. Some ingredients that we consider beneficial may be unpleasant for our skin. Recently, the beauty expert Dr Geetika Mittal Gupta shared a video on her Instagram spilling the beans on the ingredients that cause ‘damage to our skin’.

Let’s take a look at the five things that Dr Geetika has asked us to ‘red flag’ for our skincare routine.

Pure essential oils

Essential oils are one of the most hyped remedies to get clean and glowing skin. However, the expert claims that essential oils such as rose and lavender are not good for your skin. These oils contain a chemical compound known as geraniol, which is one of the most common reasons for getting skin disease. In order to have good skin, one can switch to antioxidant-rich carrier oils.

Coconut Oil

Our mothers often suggest we use coconut oil to get moisturised and blemished free skin. However, as per Dr Geetika, coconut oil is said to be one of the most ‘comedogenic oils’ that can clog pores and make the breakouts even worse.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is one of the most common ingredients found in shampoos, cleansers, and body washes. If not cleaned properly, this chemical compound can dehydrate the skin and ‘reduce the levels of ceramide’.

Parabens

Paraben is a familiar skincare ingredient used as a preservative in cosmetic products. Many natural products claim to be paraben-free as the ingredient has irreversible harmful effects on the skin.

Silicones

Moisturisers and Serums make our skin look smooth because they contain silicone. However, instead of contributing to skin health, these products just give us a temporary glow leaving it dehydrated later on.
