Kangana Ranaut adorns a Pankaj S Heritage saree, kanchuli and dusaala designed using indigenous embroideries of ancient India.

“Kangana Ranaut wanted everything to be surrounded by auspiciousness and piousness. She wanted to wear something which is spectacular and at the same time, very historic and iconic,” expresses revivalist Pankaj S, who created the ceremonial ensemble adorned by Kangana at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha on January 22, 2024.

Ahead of the Ram Mandir inauguration, Kangana shared a couple of images on Instagram looking divine in the Pankaj S Heritage saree. Kangana’s traditional look featured a saree, kanchuli and dusaala created using revived indigenous embroideries of ancient India namely chikandozi, kharra gota, vasli, marodi and taarkassi.

Rich in Indian culture and heritage, the Pankaj S Heritage ensemble featured an alluring motif of Lord Krishna on the sleeve of Kangana’s kanchuli (blouse). The motif was created using kharra gota in silver and the design featured Lord Krishna holding a garland as if he was welcoming Lord Ram. The kanchuli also features a swastik sign and blooming flower motifs, which is considered auspicious.

Every element in Kangana’s ensemble has been created keeping the pious occasion in mind. A labour of love which began in 2022, the colour palette is quintessential auspicious shades of kesari, gulal, camphor, and kumkum, the dusaala (shawl) is pashmina a woven fabric from Srinagar, Kashmir, and the saree is crafted in mulmul, the kanchuli features kharra gota embroidery from Jaipur, the chikankari comes from Lucknow. There’s a whole lot of India and its crafts residing in Kangana’s celebratory ensemble. “It’s not just a garment, it’s a representation of India. Like the motifs, colours and textiles have a strong relevance to the crafts and culture we hail from. We have used the actual silver and gold in the blouse and in the saree,” adds Pankaj.

On the occasion of the Ram Mandir inauguration ceremony, celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Katrina Kaif, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Ram Charan, Chiranjeevi, Rohit Shetty, Rajkumar Hirani, Rajnikanth, among others were present to seek blessings.

Kangana is one of the few celebrities who has been an advocate for Indian crafts and textiles. This isn’t the first time the star has adorned a statement piece from Pankaj S Heritage. The Manikarnika-actor recently adorned a lehenga set inspired by Vrindavan for Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira Khan’s wedding reception.
