Mumbai: Bollywood actress Dia Mirza will be opening the show for designer Anita Dongre's collection at the upcoming Lakme Fashion Week here wherein the crafts will be the "showstopper" for this season.
The designer said the theme for LFW's this season is 'Handcrafted Traditions of India' where she has endeavoured to showcase the beauty of traditional Indian craft. "Dia Mirza has lent a great amount of support to our endeavour and she will be opening my show at the fashion week along with a strong message," Anita said. According to her, the traditional skills in contemporary silhouettes and ensembles highlight Indian crafts
at their best. "The fabrics, the weaves, the cuts and the colours beautifully encompass the essence of contemporising craft. From Banaras Weaves, Sewa, Ikat, block prints, silk fabels, each collection beautifully represents the traditions of India," she added.
"It's the crafts that are the showstopper this season. The endeavour is to bring to limelight unique forms of craftsmanship from each area depicting the diversity and intricacy of each one of these original creations. And to inspire people to adapt these old traditions into modern everyday life," Anita said to a query. Offering a glimpse into the legacy of crafts, Anita will be seen painting a modern contemporary picture through a unique showcase through the theme. of excellence with a legacy that dates back hundreds of years and our endeavour is to showcase the beauty that lies in our roots," she said.
On being asked about the collection and inspiration behind it, Anita said, "India's myriad craft traditions and living craft skills are exceptional and irreplaceable resources. They have been a treasure from the yesteryears, transcending across time and generations."
The colour story that the ace designer would be displaying on the runway include cream, red, pink and others. Anita will present her collection on day two of the five-day fashion extravaganza which begins from August 26.
