Aadesh Shrivastava was first diagnosed with cancer in December 2010. Having undergone chemotherapy the first time and beating the deadly disease, in a candid interview to Times Of India in 2011, Shrivastava had complained that how in his darkest hours, most people of the film industry turned their back on him and his family.
“Falling ill so suddenly was traumatic. But the cold-shoulder treatment I got from the people with whom I've closely worked with for years, has caused me even more damage than the disease itself. Nobody came to visit me after I fell sick,” Shirvastav had said. The composer had to sell his Hummer in order to pay his medical bills.
But Shrivastava was not new to struggle. The composer, who hailed from Jabalpur, had to struggle for a few years to gain a foothold in the film industry. He assisted Laxmikant Pyarelal for almost a decade before taking the responsibility of a professional composer. His first break came in 1990 in Madhuri Dixit starrer ‘Sailaab’ for which the composer scored the background music. The same year he turned playback singer with the song ‘Ali Baba’ for Amitabh Bachchan starrer ‘Agneepath’. While Shrivastava composed for several films from1991 to 1995, most of his work went unnoticed as these films either sank without a trace or did not get a commercial release at all.
Shrivastava’s big break came in 1996 when his song ‘Kya Ada Kya Jalwe Tere Paro’ from the film ‘Shastra’ became the one of top chartbusters of that year.
Shrivastava was known to be close to Amitabh Bachchan. In a earlier interview, the composer had said, “I call Amitabh Bachchan my dada. Since my childhood, he has been my Ram Bhagwan and I am his Hanuman." Shrivastava had also composed some very popular numbers for Big B including ‘Say Shava Shava’ from the film ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’ and ‘Sona Sona’ from Major Saab. The duo had also collaborated together for a private album on ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ in 2011.
In fact, the Bachchans had reached out to the composer and his family when Aadesh was first diagnosed with cancer in 2010. While the composer was upset with most of peers during that period, he fought the disease and bounced back in 2011 and collaborated with international artist Akon during his tour in India. The same year, Shrivastava composed ‘Mora Piya Mose Bolat Nahi’ for Prakash Jha’s ‘Raajneeti’ which was one of the most popular songs of that year.
Apart from composing music for films like ‘Chalte Chalte’, ‘Baabul,’ ‘Baghban’ , Shrivastava had also composed the background score for many films such as ‘Paheli’, ‘Garv: Pride and Honour’, and ‘Humraaz’. The composer had also appeared as a celebrity judge on one of the seasons of Zee TV’s ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’.
Married to actress-singer Vijayata Pandit, the couple have two sons Anivesh and Avitesh.
During last few days, while he was battling cancer at the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai, hoards of film celebrities dropped by to meet the gentle, soft spoken composer. Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, Sonu Nigam paid him a visit. His brother-in-laws Jatin Pandit and Lalit Pandit were also by his side during his last few days along with his wife and sons.
Incidentally, Shrivastava turned 49 on 4th September, just a day before he breathed his last.
