Kannada actor Darshan, a prime accused in his fan’s murder case and at the centre of a storm over a tea party on the Bengaluru jail premises, was shifted to Bellary jail early Thursday after a five-and-a-half-hour journey through Andhra Pradesh.

Nine co-accused of the actor were shifted to different jails across the state. Bellary Jail assigned him prisoner number 511 and lodged him in a high-security cell with a floor area of 10 by 10 metres. Darshan reportedly refused breakfast and lunch, saying he was “stressed”. His ETV was 6106 in Bengaluru jail. According to sources, Darshan was taken in a Bolero with two escort vehicles and left the jail premises at around 4.10 am on a route that was kept top secret to avoid media and fan attention.

The convoy took the NH-44 (Bengaluru-Hyderabad) via Mehkri Circle, Yelahanka, Devanahalli and entered AP. From Anantapur, they took the state highway and reached the Central Jail in Bellary, 330 km away, at 9.50 am.

The windows of the Bolero were covered to avoid public gaze. After reaching Anantapur, Darshan was loaded into a van and taken to the Central Jail in Bellary.

Clothed in jeans and a T-shirt, Darshan wore sunglasses and a doublet gifted to him by his son on his left hand and held a water bottle in his hand as he got out of the van.

A source from Bellary Jail said he was medically examined and told to strictly follow prison rules.

He was asked to deposit his silver bracelet, sacred thread, sunglasses, pearl necklace, water bottle and doublet at the jail office.

Besides, Darshan is said to have brought books into the jail when he entered Bellary jail from Bengaluru’s Parappa Agrahara. It is said that Darshan entered Bellary jail with two big books and a bag. Darshan, who had more than 20 books with him while he was lodged in Parappa Agrahara jail, spent his time reading them. It is said that some books were gifted to him by friends and actor Darshan seems to be reading books to pass the time.
