Aishwarya Rai was Shooting Jodhaa Akbar When Abhishek Bachchan Proposed Marriage to Her
Here’s how Ashutosh Gowariker and Hrithik Roshan reacted to the news of her engagement.

Now together for over 12 years, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan says she was shooting Khwaja Mere Khwaja, the sufi song of her 2008 film Jodhaa Akbar, when Abhishek Bachchan proposed marriage to her.

Calling the moment ‘surreal’, she told Filmfare how Jodhaa Akbar’s director Ashutosh Gowariker and her co-star Hrithik Roshan reacted to the news of her engagement. “Ashutosh is like ‘You are engaged!’ and I am like ‘Yeah’," she said, adding that Hrithik gave her an excited thumbs up.

The 45-year-old said it was extremely bizarre for her as Khwaja Mere Khwaja features right after Jodha and Akbar’s wedding in the film and she was dressed as a bride for the shoot. “We’re doing Khawja Mere Khwaja, sitting as a bride, and I am like, oh my god this is surreal, all happening on-screen, off-screen, this is bizarre," she said.
