The countdown to India's prestigious award ceremony, The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA), has kicked off.

The countdown to India's prestigious award ceremony, The International Indian Film Academy (IIFA), has kicked off. While you all are excited about the upcoming edition, we give you a quick lowdown on the different elements that will make the awards ceremony a memorable experience.

IIFA 2016 will be held in Madrid, which is referred to as one of Europe's busiest cultural centres. It is also the football capital of the world.

IIFA Madrid 2016 will begin from June 23 and conclude on June 26.

The 4-day-long extravaganza will comprise events such as IIFA Rocks/MULA Fest, IIFA Stomp, an exhibition of urban trends and the magnificent IIFA Awards.

The IIFA Rocks stage will also have noted music director-composer-singer Pritam performing with Spanish artistes.

National-award winner Monali Thakur and Papon will also take to the stage to entertain audience.

Performances will also include popular numbers of the Meet Brothers featuring Kanika Kapoor with Benny Dayal and Neeti Mohan.

The star-studded IIFA 2016 will also have Bollywood stars Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Sonakshi Sinha performing live.

Shahid Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar will be the hosts for this year.

While unveiling the IIFA celebrations at the IIFA Welcome Flashmob in Madrid Sonakshi had said, “My association with IIFA has been forged since I first joined the industry and it's an event I look forward to every year. It is an excellent opportunity for us the film community to connect with fans and take our cinema across the globe. Madrid is a thrilling city, and I am looking forward to experiencing another spectacular IIFA in another amazing destination."

"IIFA is iconic. I applaud IIFA's vision of overcoming boundaries and reaching out to an international audience for Indian films. I have some very fond memories attached to Spain while we were filming for 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.' I am thrilled to come back to Spain to announce the IIFA 2016 celebrations in Madrid," Hrithik had said.
