Amitabh Bachchan Promised a College in Aishwarya Rai's Name, But Left It Midway | What Villagers Did

The Bachchan family, Bollywood’s royalty, never fails to capture headlines. Amitabh Bachchan, the legend who’s been winning hearts for over decades now, once made a grand promise that has since turned into a story of unfulfilled dreams. Back in 2008, Big B, along with his family — son Abhishek, wife Jaya, and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan — laid the foundation stone for a college named after Aishwarya in Daulatpur village, Barabanki district, Uttar Pradesh. It was a moment of pride and promise.
But here’s what happened: The family even named it ‘Aishwarya Bachchan Kanya Mahavidyalay’, supposedly for higher secondary students. Despite the plans, the college remained a mere blueprint. Reports reveal that Amitabh handed over the project to the Nishtha Foundation, with Jaya Prada at the helm. The villagers, eager to see the promise fulfilled, even offered over 10,000 square meters of land for the construction. Yet, the college remained a dream unbuilt.
In fact, in 2018, after almost 10 year ago, the people of Daulatpaur took it upon themselves and have now successfully established a degree college. The villagers decided to realise the dream on their own on a separate piece of land barely 500 metres away. A 40-year-old teacher from the village, Satyawan Shukla led the initiative with villagers and collected nearly Rs 60 lakh for the college. A 10,000 square metre land was donated by Shukla’s father and brother for the college and now, Daulatpur Degree College is a reality.
Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan is currently busy shooting for Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 and often takes to his social media handle to share images from the show’s set. While the Bachchan family is currently in the spotlight after Abhishek Bachchan liked a post about divorce on Instagram, raising eyebrows, Amitabh has kept busy with work.
Amitabh took to X and wrote, “T 5089 – The work at KBC… renders long hours, but fills one with deep emotion and exciting entertainment in my talks with the contestants…”
Jaya Bachchan, in the meantime, has been in news for her heated moment in the Rajya Sabha. The actor-politician firmly objected to Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh addressing her as “Shrimati Jaya Amitabh Bachchan.” She reminded the assembly that her identity stands independently of her husband’s name.
