South superstar Kamal Haasan is facing legal troubles as the producers of Uttama Villain have filed a case against him. According to reports, the case was filed due to breach of contract on the part of the actor.
Recently, the death anniversary of the late D. Ramanujath, the founder of the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association, was held in Chennai. Speaking at the event, Kamal Haasan acknowledged the late Ramanujath as a major contributor to the development of the film industry.
Kamal Haasan also urged people not to criticise each other too much even though there are many issues and discussions in the film industry. It is to be noted that Kamal has asked industry people not to abuse each other on media while the Producers Association is negotiating in this regard.
The suit was filed by director and producer Lingusamy and co-producer Subash Chandrabose of Thirrupathi Brothers. The suit was filed with the Producers Council for breach of contract. The three acted in the 2015 film Uttama Villain which pushed the Thirrupathi brothers into debt. According to further reports, Kamal Haasan promised the filmmakers to work with them on another project which has not been taken up even after nine years.
On May 2, Lingusamy said in a statement that Kamal Haasan changed the script several times which led to the project’s failure at the box office. He further revealed that they wanted the actor for a remake of the Malayalam blockbuster Drishyam. He turned down the offer. The producer claimed that he was working on the film for another company within a few weeks.
After the failure of Uttama Villain, the actor promised the producers to make up for the loss by acting in another film for them with a budget of Rs 30 crore, but he did not do so. The complainants are still waiting for a response from the council.
Uttama Villain was directed by Ramesh Aravind and written by Kamal Haasan. The cast includes Kamal Haasan in the lead role, K Balachander, K Vishwanath, Urvashi, Jayaram, Andrea Jeremiah and many others.
