Heeramandi FIRST Review Out: Bhansali’s Series Takes You on ‘Mesmerising’ Journey, Is ‘Truly Special’
Heeramandi first review praises the world that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has created. The Netflix series is set to release on May 1.

Heeramandi First Review: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s long awaited series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, is all set to release next week on Netflix and it seems like it will live up to everyone’s expectations. The series is set in the pre-Independent, British-ruled India and against the elite house of courtesans. Heeramandi features a stellar star cast. This includes Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Sanjeeda Shaikh. The series also features Fardeen Khan, Adhyayan Suman and Shekhar Suman in pivotal roles.

On Wednesday, Netflix India hosted a grand premiere and several stars such as Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Rekha and Genelia Deshmukh, among others, attended the premiere. Genelia was among the first ones to share her review of Heeramandi. She took to her Instagram Stories and shared a photo with the acclaimed filmmaker along with her review.

“Just saw 2 episodes of Heeramandi and it has me craving for more. What a world, what a journey you take us through to Sanjay Sir. Mesmerised as always. Loved, loved, loved the entire cast and what a super effort by the crew too. Netflix, this is truly special,” she wrote.

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is slated to release on May 1. The trailer was released earlier this month and it transported fans to a time when courtesans reigned as monarchs. Through the stories of courtesans and their clients, set against the turbulent backdrop of the Indian Independence struggle in the 1940s, the series investigates the cultural reality of the namesake area of Heera Mandi.

The series features Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chaddha, Sharmin Segal and Sanjeeda Shaikh as tawaifs who go from having the Nawabs under their control to finding themselves fighting against English oppression. Fardeen Khan, Taha Shah Badussha, Shekhar Suman, and Adhyayan Suman play the roles of the Nawabs.
