Ray Chan, associated with Marvel Studios for a long time as a production designer, died at the age of 56 near his home in Wales. Confirming the unfortunate news, the studio issued a statement on Friday. Chan, who was known for being a regular contributor to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, had been a part of major flicks like Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and even the upcoming MCU film, Deadpool & Wolverine. Ahead of the film’s release, Chan’s sudden demise sent a wave of grief among the team, including actors Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds.
Devastated upon hearing the tragic news about late Ray Chan, Hugh Jackman shared a heartfelt note on Instagram and paid his last respects. “I am devastated to hear of the tragic news about Ray Chan. There was not a day shooting when I didn’t marvel at what he created. He created magic. There was this look in his eyes. The look of a man who loved his craft. I’ve had the pleasure of working with some of the best in the business,” he wrote.
Hugh also shared how Ray was always at the very top and felt thankful for having spent “bonus time” with him two weeks ago. “Time for him to finish the job he loved so much. He told a great story. And man – I am so honoured to have played a role. My heart goes out to Ray’s family and friends. Rest well Ray Chan. Rest well,” the note concluded.
The Logan actor clearly poured his heart out as he cherished the time spent with Chan.
On the other hand, Ryan Reynolds also shared a long note on his Instagram story to share his feelings. Heartbroken by the news, the Deadpool actor wrote, “Words are pretty inadequate in comparison to this loss.”
He shared how Chan had an “incomparable reservoir of skill, tender grit, and talent” and was a “creative force” on the Deadpool & Wolverine team. “I don’t pretend to know every chapter of Ray’s heart, but I know it’s unusual to encounter someone with that level of artistry, who simultaneously moved through the world with such an indelible humanity,” he continued.
The actor also recalled the time when the Deadpool & Wolverine team met Raymond Chan two weeks ago and concluded, “One of the last things I said to him was that he makes magic and there’s nobody on earth like him.”
Beside the actors, director Shawn Levy also mourned Chan’s death in a statement to Deadline.
