Netflix is one of the OTT giants which is subscribed by billions of people around the world. It has started a new initiative to release its half-yearly engagement report to present the viewership of the shows on the platform. It has now released its second engagement report titled What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report. It captures the Netflix Viewership from July to December 2023. It covered 99 percent of all viewing on Netflix. The building stories which progress with new seasons still captivate the viewership of the streamers. The first three parts of Lupin generated nearly 100M views in the second half of 2023, with nearly 200M views across Cocomelon’s eight seasons. People watched 90 billion hours of Netflix in the second half of 2023. The Indian content on Netflix, as per the Engagement Report, amassed a total of over 1 billion views in the second half of 2023. There were a total of 400 titles that were leading on Netflix boards from across the world. It included 11 Indian titles in the leading race. Among them, there were seven movies and four shows.
The film which topped the Indian film list on Netflix was Sujoy Ghosh-directorial Jaane Jaan. It starred Kareena Kapoor Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma in the lead roles. The film stood at the 83rd position in the list of topmost movies watched on Netflix in the second half. It garnered 20.2 million views during the calculated period.
It was followed by Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. It garnered 16.2 million views. It was directed by Atlee and starred Deepika Padukone, Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara in the prominent roles. The film was the highest-grossing film in Bollywood in 2023. The list then includes Khufiya (12.1 million), OMG 2 (11.5 million), Lust Stories 2 (9.2 million), Dream Girl 2 (8.2 million), and Curry & Cyanide (8.2 million).
As for the web series, the YRF debut OTT series The Railway Men took the top position for the most watched OTT Indian series on Netflix. It was directed by Shiv Rawail. The series starred R Madhavan, Kay Kay Menon, Divyendu and Babil Khan in the lead roles. It garnered 10.6 million views. It is followed by Kohraa and Raj & DK’s Guns & Gulaabs.
