Despite the ongoing reboot of the DC Universe, some familiar characters will remain, including Peacemaker, portrayed by John Cena, who is already preparing for Season 2. James Gunn, the new head of DC and director, recently took to Instagram to celebrate the anniversary of Peacemaker, also known as Christopher Smith, and his debut in DC Comics. Gunn shared a nostalgic image of the character from the original comic, along with a behind-the-scenes photo of John Cena on set, offering fans a first glimpse of Peacemaker’s newly designed helmet. In his post, Gunn praised Cena, saying he was “born to play” the iconic DC role.
Meanwhile, fans are now excited to see if the new helmet design pays homage to the character’s classic look or introduces a fresh twist. Sharing the post, James Gunn wrote, “On this day, #Peacemaker aka Christopher Smith made his first comic appearance in Fightin’ 5 #40, in 1966, created by Joe Gill and Pat Boyette. It’s the role John Cena was born to play, and I can’t wait to show you all what we’re cooking up now for Peacemaker Season 2.”
Interestingly, the official Instagram page of the Peacemaker TV series hyping up season 2 wrote, “We’re cooking and I’m bringing the spice. Let’s do this.”
While the details about the plot and new cast members for Peacemaker Season 2 remain a mystery, Robert Patrick, who played the titular character’s father Auggie Smith, is returning despite his character’s death in the first season. Appearing at a panel during Tampa Bay Comic Con, Robert confirmed that he was working with James Gunn and John Cena on the new season.
As per Popverse, the veteran star said, “I was with John on Friday. We’re filming season 2.” In another segment, he added, “I was just working with James Gunn on Friday. James is amazing. He’s one of the most talented people I’ve met in my life. Incredible mind and just a wonderful human being. I love him and his wife Jennifer Holland. We were doing a big scene for the second season of Peacemaker on Friday right before I came here.”
Before the surprise announcement, James Gunn had already confirmed Robert Patrick’s involvement in Peacemaker Season 2 on Friday. On his Instagram Stories, the filmmaker shared a scene from the previous season and tagged both John Cena and Robert Patrick, with the text, “Filming with these guys right now.”
Other than John Cena and Robert Patrick, Peacemaker Season 2 also stars Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks and Joel Kinnaman, among others.
