Karan Johar was visibly in shock after he was honoured for his contributions to the Indian film industry at the IIFA 2024. Karan completed 25 years last year. While he gifted fans Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, IIFA presented him with a special award to celebrate his journey so far. “Today, IIFA honours Karan Johar for completing 25 years in the Indian film industry and creating a legacy for the ages,” announced Vicky Kaushal.
The award was presented to him by Shah Rukh Khan. The filmmaker was in shock by the honour. He managed to find his way on stage and appeared to be still wrapping his head around the honour. He then touched Shah Rukh’s feet and accepted the award. Watch the video below:

Karan began his directorial journey with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998. The film starred Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji in the lead. The film won the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Karan went on to deliver several box office hits. These included Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… (2001), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), My Name Is Khan (2010), Student of the Year (2012) and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). His last directorial film was Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which released in 2023.
Although he has been picky about his directorial projects, Karan has supported several films as a producer and distributor. This year, he co-produced Kill, which became popular among cinephiles. He also co-produced Vicky Kaushal’s Bad Newz this year. He was also the Hindi distributor of Devara, starring Jr NTR, Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan in the lead.
