Andrew Garfield and Kate Tomas have called it quits, marking the end of their short-lived romance. The acclaimed actor, known for his role in The Amazing Spider-Man, and Tomas, who holds a doctoral degree in Theology from the University of Oxford, officially ended their relationship. Tomas confirmed the breakup on October 11 through the comments on one of her Instagram posts, stating that the couple actually split “months ago.”
“Are you still dating Andrew Garfield? If so, tell him I’m a fan of him, please,” an Instagram user commented on the scholar’s Instagram page, to which Kate Thomas responded, “We broke up months ago but I’m sure he will be happy to know that he is loved.”
Garfield and Thomas made headlines when they were spotted together in late March this year, enjoying a double date with Phoebe Bridgers and Bo Burnham at a Malibu restaurant. The couple was seen holding hands. Days after they were photographed grocery shopping in Los Angeles. Their last public appearance as a couple occurred in July at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in England. Despite this public engagement, Garfield has chosen not to comment on their breakup, which Tomas confirmed but noted had happened months ago.
In a 2021 interview with Bustle, Garfield mentioned that he prefers to keep his love life private, saying, “I’m not in the public eye to a great degree because I’ve designed it that way for myself,” he said at the time.
Tomas has faced increased scrutiny since the revelation of her relationship with Garfield.
In the same post, a separate user questioned why she continues to mention Garfield despite his silence about their relationship, Tomas delivered a sharp retort, writing, “Sweetheart, the only people who ever talk about or center a man in my life, work, business, and social media are women like you.”
In July, she expressed her frustration with the way society often prioritises a woman’s relationship status over her achievements. “It’s frustrating that no matter how accomplished or impactful a woman is, it’s always going to be more interesting if they are in a relationship with a man. I don’t want to sit under anybody’s shadow,” she remarked in an interview with The Sunday Times.
She further criticised the media, saying, “They will take maybe 150 pictures, then they choose the four where you look worst.”
In the past, Garfield has been linked to his Spider-Man co-star Emma Stone, and in late 2021, he began dating model Alyssa Miller. However, that relationship ended in April 2022, as reported by People.
