Kirron Kher also recalled why she took a break from acting after her son Sikandar was born and explained that she had no other choice.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas is widely loved to date. While it starred Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai in the lead, Kirron Kher also essayed the role of Paro’s mother Sumitra in the movie. At the News18’s She Shakti 2024 event on Monday in New Delhi, the actress-turned-politician talked about being a part of the film and shared that she found her role in the Bhansali directorial ‘outstanding’.

“I could not say no to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devadas. The role was so outstanding. Then I could not say no to all my dear friends, Yash Chopra or Farah Khan. When I did one commercial film, I had to do it for others also. I enjoyed working on those films. I enjoyed working with Karan Johar. It was a lot of fun,” Kirron Kher said.

Kirron also talked about Shah Rukh Khan’s 2007 movie Om Shanti Om and added, “Itna maza aaya voh film karke (working on that film was a lot of fun). The whole set was so interesting. Shah Rukh was a wonderful co-star to work with. He used to work with love.”

During the interaction, Kirron Kher also recalled why she took a break from acting after her son Sikandar was born and explained that she had no other choice. “My child was so young. Who will handle my child if I step out to work in films? It is a full-time profession, far more than politics. Morning to night. Even if you aren’t well or your child isn’t well, you cannot cancel the shoot. Producers face losses of crores of rupees if a shoot is cancelled,” she said.

News18’s She Shakti was held in New Delhi on September 16, 2024. It celebrated the trailblazing women propelling India to the global forefront. The summit had an inspiring line-up of pioneers from diverse fields — politics, science, arts, business, sports and entertainment — to share their ground-breaking journeys and insights on empowerment, resilience and leadership, reflecting the unstoppable momentum of women leading India’s progress.
