How many of us look for logic in a comedy film? The thumb rule of enjoying a slapstick is that you tuck your brains away and get swayed away with the silly fun.
While many would say that 'Welcome Back' is a bad remake of its prequel but one can't deny the fact that the movie is entertaining and tickles your funny bone even if it is dim-witted. So in the end if you have a good laugh and you are left with an aching jaw, you can’t be complaisant just because you compared it to its previous installment.
While watching 'Welcome Back', I could hear pearls of laughter coming from all corners, but when the movie ended there wasn’t a single person to praise it. All they had to say about this Anees Bazmee directed movie was that its utter nonsense and misuse of talents like Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia, Paresh Rawal and Nana Patekar. But if these people could together leave you in splits, do you really have to look for something more enamoring in the script?
If Uday (Nana Patekar) and Majnu (Anil Kapoor) are the showstoppers of Welcome Back, the spotlight is hogged by Dr. Ghungroo (Paresh Rawal). He is witty and downright hilarious in whatever he says.
So the moment he gets to know that his wife has a son out of their wedlock and she urges him to accept him as his heir, he screams – jab meiney vote kiya heen nai, to pradhan mantri mera kaisey hua?
There are a few scenes in the movie that are extremely hilarious and will make you laugh till you cry. The graveyard scene is certainly the highlight. And whatever scenes Aneez has recreated from his 2007 Welcome and fun to watch again and relive the moment.
So 'Welcome Back' is for all those who are longing for a good laugh. We all love to laugh at silly things however cerebral we may be. Isn't it?
