In a recent conversation with Zoom, Mahesh Bhatt, a veteran filmmaker in Bollywood, addressed why he chooses not to react to the trolling directed at him and his children. He explained that his silence is a sign of strength, not weakness.
Quoting Lord Krishna, Mahesh Bhatt said, “‘Inaction is action.’ When I chose not to act, that was action. The trolls or my adversaries knew that I came from strength, not cowardice. I was not a petrified man.” He emphasized that his decision to remain silent is deliberate, stemming from confidence rather than fear.
Mahesh Bhatt also spoke about his refusal to be consumed by a “manufactured narrative,” asserting that he has nothing to protect. He expressed confidence in his children’s ability to take care of themselves, just as he did. However, he assured that if needed, he would act as a “firewall” to protect them.
Bhatt criticized the overvaluation of the virtual world, stating, “My silence is out of choice, not some kind of timidity, fear of consequences. What consequences? The virtual world seems to become more valuable than the real world. I don’t subscribe to that.”
On a concluding note, he highlighted the importance of genuine relationships and emotional expression, saying, “The ‘real relationship’ is to ‘cry openly in front of the camera,’ and that is my view of living life in the arena.”
Mahesh Bhatt is celebrated for his direction of path-breaking movies such as Arth, Saaransh, Aashiqui, Dil Hai Ki Maanta Nahin, and Hum Hain Raahi Pyar Ke.
