Malayalam Lyricist Sreekumaran Thampi Shares He Was Hospitalised After Suffering Stroke
The lyricist-poet said that on September 9, 2024, he suffered a stroke due to high blood pressure.

Renowned poet, lyricist, music director, screenwriter, and producer Sreekumaran Thampi stated that he suffered a stroke due to high blood pressure and was in the hospital for a week. He said that he was out of danger because he was brought to the hospital when he had the stroke. Sreekumaran shared this news with his fans through a Facebook post. He also stated that he was unable to comment on the death of actress Kaviyoor Ponnamma.

The poet said that on September 9, 2024 he suffered a stroke due to high blood pressure. He was taken to the hospital on time and the accident was averted. He was under treatment in the ICU at the KIMS Health Hospital for a week. He is advised complete rest for about a month. Sreekumaran Thampi expressed his gratitude to the expert doctors and nurses of KIMS Health Neurology Department, Thiruvananthapuram who saved his life.

He says that he is also indebted to the Chairman of KIMS Health Hospital, Dr Sahadullah, who came to see him as soon as he knew that Sreekumaran was in the ICU. He also explains that he has not used his mobile and laptop for several days and that he is writing this Facebook post with the help of his friend, so that his well-wishers will not misunderstand him for not giving any reply to phone calls, messages and mails including Onam greetings.

Even on the death of Kaviyoor Ponnamma, whom he considered like a sister, he could not react to it. He urges his fans to understand his current situation and cooperate with him as this rest is essential for him now.

Sreekumaran Thampi is widely recognised for his work in the 1970s and 1980s, creating a lasting impact on Malayalam cinema and music. His songs are known for their deep emotional resonance, poetic quality, and the ability to blend classical music with popular appeal. Some of his most famous songs include Sandhye Kanneerithan, Hridayasarasile pranayapushpame, Hridayathin romancham and Manjilayum manjilayum. Many of his songs were composed by legendary composers like MK Arjunan and V Dakshinamoorthy.
