Farah Khan and Sajid Khan are grieving the loss of their beloved mother, Menaka Irani, who passed away at the age of 79.

Choreographer-director Farah Khan and director Sajid Khan are mourning the loss of their mother, Menaka Irani, who passed away on Friday in Mumbai. Menaka Irani, who was also the sister of renowned child actors Daisy Irani and Honey Irani, had a brief acting stint herself. She appeared in the 1963 film ‘Bachpan’ alongside her sister Daisy. According to reports, Menaka had been battling an illness for some time before her passing.

The heartbreaking news of Menaka Irani’s passing came just days after she celebrated her birthday. On July 12, Farah Khan shared a heartfelt post on social media to honor her mother’s special day. In the touching pictures, Farah was seen holding her mother’s hand, both of them smiling warmly for the camera. One of the photos was a nostalgic monochrome shot.

In her emotional birthday message, Farah wrote, “We all take our mothers for granted… especially me! This last month has been a revelation on how much I love my mom Menka. She has been the strongest, bravest person I’ve ever seen, her sense of humor intact even after multiple surgeries. Happy birthday mom! Today’s a good day to come back home ❤️ can’t wait for you to get strong enough to start fighting with me again.. I love you ❤️”

The post garnered an outpouring of love and support from the film industry, with veteran actor Anil Kapoor, Zareen Khan, Huma Qureshi, Abhishek Bachchan, and Ananya Panday among those who sent their heartfelt wishes in the comments section.

Farah Khan had previously shared how she, her brother Sajid, and their mother Menaka Irani navigated the financial hardships following the death of their father, Kamran Khan, due to alcoholism. Reflecting on those challenging times, Farah had revealed, “Yes, I belonged to a filmy family, but by the time I turned five, we were the poor cousins. We’d lost all our money, dad’s film had flopped. We had a riches-to-rags story. So, while the rest of the family was thriving, we became the charity cases. Sajid, our mother, and I were supported by our relatives, who graciously let us stay in their house.” She shared this heartfelt story on Radio Nasha, emphasizing the resilience and solidarity that carried them through those tough years.

For those unfamiliar, Farah Khan’s maternal aunt, Daisy Irani, is a well-known figure in the film industry. Beginning her career as a child artist, Daisy gained fame for her roles in movies like “Naya Daur,” ‘Bandish,’,’Kya Kehna,’ and ‘Happy New Year,’ among others.
