Following the major success of Munjya, Abhay Verma has become a popular face in Bollywood. Yet, like many newcomers and outsiders, he has faced significant challenges, including the painful realities of the “casting couch”. In a recent interview, Abhay claimed that he encountered difficult situations during the early stages of his career.
“I have never gotten to the point where I have said no. Actually, it did happen once, so my first-ever meeting in Bombay was not the ideal meeting. People do want different things in life,” he said as quoted by Instant Bollywood. After facing the uneasy situation, the actor chose to give up on his dreams and left for his home in Panipat, Haryana as he did not want to compromise on his values.
“I was too naive to ever register it at that point. It happened once, and later on, I said, ‘Why would I give my remote to my TV to everyone to play and change the channel?’ That is my life, and that is my goal. I went to Panipat, and I crushed my dreams like this cannot let this happen,” he added. Abhay then shared how he came back with new “power” as a changed person. “I was like, ‘It’s my journey, and no one has the right to tell me about it,” he concluded.
While the actor chose not to disclose any names, his experience sheds light on the troubling reality within the entertainment industry, where aspiring actors often find themselves vulnerable to sexual exploitation in their pursuit of opportunities.
On The Work Front
Abhay Verma started his acting career with shows such as Marzi and Little Things. However, it was his breakthrough role in The Family Man 2 alongside Manoj Bajpayee that shifted the trajectory of his career. He was also seen in Ae Watan Mere Watan and Safed.
The actor’s latest release, supernatural horror comedy Munjya premiered in theatres on June 7, 2024. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the film also featured Sharvari Wagh, Mona Singh and Sathyaraj in significant roles. Munjya is now streaming on Disney+Hotstar.
