Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan was finally released on Thursday. Upon its release, the film received a tremendous response from the audience, a usual for a Rajinikanth film. Now, there are new reports of the film’s OTT debut, which could take place in the coming months.
As per reports on Vettaiyan’s OTT release, the film is expected to be released online on the Amazon Prime Video platform. Some earlier reports state that the film’s digital rights were bought by the streaming giant for a whopping Rs 65 crore. A confirmation is yet to be made by the makers along with its official online release date.
It would take around 6 to 8 weeks for the film to debut online when it is close to completing its theatrical run. Vettaiyan will be released in its original Tamil version along with a dubbed Hindi version, added the reports.
On its first day of release, Vettaiyan collected over Rs 31 crore at the box office in India, according to the Sacnilk website. And globally, the film has collected over a reported Rs 70 crore. Rajinikanth is being featured in the role of a Police Superintendent named Athiyan, who is based in Kanyakumari. The film follows the inspector’s journey after he shoots an innocent during a police encounter, which is connected to the murder of a teacher he knew.
Vettaiyan is written and directed by TJ Gnanavel, and was released on October 10. The cast of the film is an ensemble of names like Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Dushara Vijayan and many more. It is produced by Subaskaran Allirajah under the banner of Lyca Productions. For music, the makers roped in Anirudh Ravichander while the cinematography is done by SR Kathir and Philomin Raj is the editor. The theatrical distribution is being done by Red Giant Movies. As per reports, the film was made with a budget of Rs 300 crore.
