Ramayan aired on DD National from January 25, 1987, to July 31, 1988.

The legendary television show Ramayan, which debuted in 1987 and was created by Ramanand Sagar, is about to make a triumphant comeback on Doordarshan (DD) National. According to a tweet from Doordarshan’s official handle, the show is all set to make a comeback on TV again. Fans of the show, who treasure it for its nostalgic and cultural significance, are thrilled about this announcement, which was made on January 30, 2024. The show’s telecast date has yet to be announced, but fans are eager to relive the epic tale and are already excited.

“Lord Shri Ram has come! India’s most popular show ‘Ramayan’ is back once again. Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan once again on DD National, watch soon!,” the post shared by the official handle of Doordarshan National reads on X (formally known as Twitter).

After this post went viral, fans expressed their happiness. Social media users also demanded that the Shri Krishna-themed show be rerun on television.

Given that the country recently celebrated the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony on January 22, which deepened devotion to Lord Rama, it is anticipated that the re-telecast of Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan will attract a sizable audience. The show’s return is viewed as a positive step, reflecting the timeless appeal of this mythological saga.

At the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Arun Govil actively participated in the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of Ram Lalla, along with other members of the Ramayan cast.

During the Covid-19 lockdown, Doordarshan re-aired Ramayan to provide engaging entertainment to the homebound audience, which resulted in high ratings. DD Bharti also aired the re-release of BR Chopra’s Mahabharat during that time. The decision to bring the show back now reflects public demand for this beloved series.

Ramanand Sagar created, wrote, and directed the iconic series based on the ancient Indian Sanskrit epic Ramayana. It starred Arun Govil as Lord Rama, Dipika Chikhlia as Sita, Late Dara Singh as Lord Hanumana, Late Arvind Trivedi as Ravana, and Sunil Lahri as Lakshmana. It was narrated by Ashok Kumar and Ramanand Sagar himself. Ravindra Jain’s musical score contributed to the show’s enchanting appeal.

As per reports, the series, which aired on DD National from January 25, 1987, to July 31, 1988, had a record-breaking viewership of 82 percent, making it the most-watched television series in the world at the time.
