Making it big at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine as Light is on a winning spree this year. After receiving a rousing standing ovation at the premiere, the film has now won the Grand Prix prize, the festival’s second-most prestigious award. Payal Kapadia became the first Indian filmmaker to clinch the accolade in 30 years, also marking the first female Indian director to be featured in the main competition. As the film has made the country immensely proud, social media has been flooded with congratulatory messages and greetings from fans and celebrities alike.
Joining the bandwagon is Bollywood actress Richa Chadha, who penned a long note and gave a major shoutout to the entire team. Quoting a verse by Sahir Ludhiyanvi, Richa listed a few of the many reasons why the Cannes Film Festival 2024 was historic for India.
The actress praised Payal Kapadia for winning the Grand Prix for All We Imagine As Light, Anasuya Sengupta for securing the Best Actress Award for Shameless, and director Chidananda S Naik for clinching the LA Cinef Award for Sunflowers Were The First To Know. Additionally, she commended Santosh Sivan for receiving the Pierre Angenieux ExcelLens award, among others.
Along with it, Richa also wrote an additional note, urging people to stop paying money to attend Cannes and get clicked on the red carpet. “Look at all the real achievers at the festival, strive to be one of them, go there with a film someday. Make that your dream. Fashion and cosmetics just sponsor some events there, that’s all. They’re cute. And necessary for business perhaps. It’s a film festival, and one of the best in the world,” she concluded.
Many took to the comment section and supported Richa’s views. Actress Manisha Koirala commented, “Well said…Let’s focus on the right thing and celebrate films and filmmakers. So so proud of the achievers.”
In the meantime, many other celebrities also came forward to laud All We Imagine As Light, including Kiara Advani, Bhumi Pednekar, Radhika Apte, Swara Bhasker, Farhan Akhtar, Aditi Rao Hydari and Ali Fazal.
