Side Roles To Lead Antagonist, A Look At Deepak Dobariyal's Cinematic Journey

From doing a brief role in Omkara to playing the lead antagonist in Ajay Devgn starrer Bholaa, actor Deepak Dobariyal has come a long way in Bollywood. The actor always had an affinity for acting, so to pursue his career in acting, he reached Mumbai like other aspiring artists. For a long time, he was not considered a prospect for the lead roles in the movies getting rejected numerous times due to his height primarily. He debuted in Bollywood with the movie Maqbool after establishing a successful career in theatre. Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, it was released in 2004. It starred Irrfan Khan, Tabu, Pankaj Kapur, Nasseeruddin Shah and Om Puri in the lead roles.

Deepak Dobriyal received recognition for the first time due to his role in Vishal Bharadwaj’s directorial Omkara. It came three years after his debut in Bollywood. The movie starred Ajay Devgn and Vivek Oberoi in the lead roles. Deepak Dobariyal played the character of Rajju Tiwary. However, the actor’s breakthrough finally arrived with the release of the movie Tanu Weds Manu in 2011. Directed by Anand L Rai, the actor played the supporting role of Pappi. He received widespread appreciation for his impeccable comic timing in the movie. His performance was praised to the extent that the makers decided to reprise his character in the sequel of the film released in 2015. R Madhavan and Kangana Ranaut played the lead.

After impressing the filmmakers with his performance in Tanu Weds Manu, the actor started landing important roles in multi-starrer and superhit films. He was then seen in Salman Khan’s Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo, Irrfan Khan’s Hindi Medium, Good Luck Jerry, Bhediya and many others. Deepak Dobariyal played the supporting role in Irrfan Khan’s last film, Angrezi Medium.

In his interviews, the actor has always preached about believing in oneself and his love for learning. Deepak Dobariyal was seen last in the film, Fable. It has not been released in theatres yet but was premiered at the 74th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival on February 16. It is written and directed by Raam Reddy and stars Manoj Bajpayee in the lead role.
