With increasing and evolving technology, cybercrime is at an all-time high. It can happen to anyone, at any time and anywhere, not even sparing influential names. South actress Shalu Shamu recently went through an experience with scammers, the actress detailed her experience in a now-viral video.
In the video, the actress alleged that a gang tried to fraud her for money through an online scam. According to the clip, Shalu received messages claiming she had made purchases using a credit card. Then, she talked of a second incident, where the gang contacted her to give reviews of hotels and restaurants, promising to pay her accordingly.
As per more details, Shalu Shamu was contacted by a woman through WhatsApp, who claimed to have been from a private company. The woman further claimed that her company is working for the development of the hotel and restaurant industry in India. So, if the actress comments and likes some specified locations through Google Maps and sends a screenshot, she would be given Rs 150. To make her claims seem true, she even sent a screenshot of a review and the payment made for it. The incidents prompted her to make a video to create awareness about the prevalent situation. She appealed to the public to stay alert and not be a victim of the increasing cybercrimes. She stated in the video, the scammers are contacting people mainly through WhatsApp. The video is now going viral on social media.
Shalu Shamu is known for her appearance in several South cinema releases. Including the film Varuthapadatha Vaalibar Sangam, a 2013 release directed and written by Ponram. The cast includes names like Sivakarthikeyan, Sathyaraj, Sri Divya and Soori as the leads. They are supported by Soundararaja, Shalu Shamu, Rajendran, Sriranjani, Swaminathan and others. It is produced by P Madan under the banner of Escape Artists Motion Pictures. The music in the film is done by D Imman, while the cinematographer is Balasubramaniem and Vivek Harshan is the editor.
