Subhash Ghai, Shah Rukh Khan Had Issues During Pardes? Director Says 'Manmutaav Chalta Rehta Tha'
Subhash Ghai opened up about working with Shah Rukh Khan. The director worked with the superstar in Pardes.

Director Subhash Ghai opened up about working with Shah Rukh Khan in Pardes in a new interview. The filmmaker seemingly hinted that there were disagreements between the two during the making. Shah Rukh starred opposite Mahima Chaudhry in the 1997 film. The film also starred Amrish Puri. Shah Rukh and Subhash have not teamed up since.

In the trailer of Arbaaz Khan’s talk show, The Invincibles Series Season 2, Subhash Ghai brought up Shah Rukh Khan’s name. “Jaise maine Pardes mein Shah Rukh Khan ke saath kaam kiya. Uske aur mere beech manmutaav chalta rehta tha, tu-tu main-main chalti rehti thi (I worked with Shah Rukh in Pardes. We had our share of disagreements),” the filmmaker said, seemingly referring to SRK.

Pardes completed 25 years in 2022. At the time, he spoke with ANI and said that the biggest challenge Shah Rukh faced was to keep his romantic aura aside. “I kept reminding him (Shah Rukh Khan) in every scene and song that he has to avoid his compelling, romantic side to justify Arjun’s character. It was challenging for him but he nailed it!” he said.

Besides talking about Shah Rukh, Subhash also spoke about working with Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff. While talking about good and bad actors, the director admitted Jackie was a bad actor whereas Anil was one of the good actors he had worked with. “There are five types of actors. One is a non-actor and there is one called bad actor. Bad actor was Jackie Shroff, actor is Anil Kapoor,” he said.

Subhash Ghai had worked with Jackie Shroff in Hero (1983), which was also his acting debut film, and Anil Kapoor in Meri Jung (1985) before he paired them together in Karma (1986), and Ram Lakhan (1989). He worked with Jackie again in Khal Nayak (1993) and with Anil in Taal (1999). All of these movies were massive hits.
