Taapsee Pannu has done a plethora of spy films in her career. While she made her debut in Bollywood with the slapstick comedy film Chashme Baddoor, she went on to play more nuanced roles later. In a recent interview, she took a dig at the rise in spy thrillers in Bollywood. She spoke about how every actor wants to work in a spy thriller today which she had done years ago.
In a conversation with News X, Taapsee Pannu spoke about how she worked in spy thrillers when they weren’t the rage in Bollywood. She mentioned how she was a part of spy-thrillers when they ‘were not in fashion.’ The actor said, “Now, everybody wants to do a spy thriller. I did it so many years ago that now if I do it again it’s very weird; why are you repeating yourself? I’ve done something which was so remarkable back then, I don’t want to touch it and spoil it again. If I have to really do action thriller, I was very clear I will go in some other world.”
Pannu played the role of a spy in Baby which was released in 2015. Following this, she stepped into the shoes of a spy in Naam Shabana which was released in 2017. Bollywood has a plethora of spy films in the pipeline, including the YRF Spy Universe and the woman-led Alpha which will star Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in lead roles.
On the work front, Pannu will be next seen in Gandhari. Netflix recently shared the introduction teaser of the film. From the looks of it, the project might revolve around a mother who takes drastic steps when her children are in danger. Sharing the announcement, the OTT giant wrote, “The Hasseen writer-actor duo is back. Kanika Dhillon and Taapsee Pannu return with an action thriller. Gandhari arrives soon, only on Netflix. #GandhariOnNetflix @kanika.d @taapsee @kathhapictures.” The release date of Gandhari has not been announced yet.
