Television actress Urvashi Upadhyay is a well-known name for her numerous roles in different shows. Urvashi has been in the industry for over 16 years and was first seen in Hamari Devrani. In her debut TV show, the actress played the role of Manjula Nanavati. Presently, Urvashi has been making headlines for her role in Colors’ famous serial Mangal Lakshmi, wherein she plays the role of Kusum Saxena.
Breaking the stereotypes of the fights between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, Colors’ show Mangal Lakshmi is winning the hearts of the audience with its emotional storyline of two sisters. Both sisters want respect for themselves in their relationships. Mangal is looking for a life partner for his sister Lakshmi and Lakshmi encourages his sister Mangal to stand up against her husband, who is always insulting her.
In this TV serial, Urvashi plays the role of Mangal’s mother-in-law Kusum Saxena. In a conversation with News18, Urvashi discussed her personal life along with this serial.
Talking about her acting career, Urvashi shared her experience of entering the acting industry which was a difficult decision for her, because her family was strongly against it. Urvashi said, “Earlier I used to teach, but remained associated with theatre. I have four elder brothers and all of them are associated with the education field. Once I visited Mumbai for a play, and when the play concluded I was emotional.” She added, “Shobhana Desai was also present there at the play and noticed me crying. She told me that the play was so good, why are you crying? I said that this is my last day, that’s why.”
Urvashi further mentioned that Shobhana Desai asked her to call her mother so that Shobhana could talk to her. Then she spoke to Urvashi’s mother and told her “From now on your daughter is my daughter too and I will take full care of it.” With this, she cast Urvashi in Hamari Devrani.
Further talking about her character as Kusum in Mangal Lakshmi, Urvashi said, “I got this role when I got the call for an audition. I went there with sharp make-up, as before that I had only done negative roles. I thought this would also be a similar character.” She added, “But when I reached there, I was asked to clean my makeup and keep the look simple. I like this role very much because it is very different from any character I have played till now and it is real. It is simple.”
Apart from Urvashi Upadhyay, the TV serial Mangal Lakshmi also features Naman Shaw, Deepika Singh, Shubham Dipta and Arshiya Sharma, among others.
