A prominent face in blockbuster multi-starrer films like Hungama, Dhoom, Garam Masala, Deewane Huye Paagal, Phir Hera Pheri and Golmaal, Rimi Sen has been away from Bollywood for over a decade. Her absence has been puzzling for many. After 13 years from her last appearance in the Hindi film, the actress has revealed the reason behind her hibernation. During this, the Hungama fame actress produced a film titled Budhia Singh: Born To Run and was allegedly duped Rs 4 crore by a Gurugram businessman. In her recent interview with Hindustan Times, the actress revealed the reason for her disappearance in the films.
Rimi Sen said that she was tired of doing comedy films in her career. Rimi Sen started her career with the blockbuster comedy film Hungama. She then starred in some major hits like Awaara Paagal Deewana, Golmaal, and Phir Hera Pheri. However, she never had a core role in these films as they often revolved around other actors like Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi and others.
“I was tired of doing comedy films. I was not getting any special roles. I used to get only furniture roles. I got good roles in only a few films, like Hungama and Johnny Gaddaar. After this, I did not get the kind of work that I wanted to do.” said Rimi Sen. The actress added that she was interested in working in films like Johnny Gaddaar but it didn’t work.
Rimi Sen was asked if she is still in touch with people from the industry after working with A-listers like Akshay Kumar, John Abraham and Ajay Devgn.
“I am not. I cannot ask for help from anyone. You don’t get help unless you beg. Why won’t others look at their benefit? Why would anyone come forward to help someone?” said Rimi Sen. The actress had a glorified Bollywood career which only requires one good film to revive. She was also asked about the circumstances in which she was replaced or her role was cut due to someone not being happy with her success. The actress said that the stakes are high in the industry and handling people is the prime skill an actor should know to survive in Bollywood. Talent comes later, she added.
