As Kalki 2898 AD is nearing its release, fans are excited to watch Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone reunite on screen after the success of Piku. The Shoojit Sircar directorial film was released in 2015 and became a hit both critically and commercially. However, in an unfortunate turn of events, Deepika Padukone forgot to invite Amitabh to the success bash she hosted for the film.
Piku’s success bash was attended by several big names like Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt. However, Amitabh Bachchan’s absence caught everyone’s attention. While it was first speculated that the superstar might be sick, it was later revealed that was not invited to the event.
“It was a major technical error on my part and by the time it came to my notice it was too late and I’ll never forgive myself for it,” Deccan Chronicle quoted Deepika Padukone actress as saying.
“I am so embarrassed that I have not even had the courage to call him after that. I did eventually text him a couple of days ago but I have still not had the courage to pick up the phone and even explain myself to him. But I will. It was a major technical thing,” she further added.
When asked about this incident during the promotion of Wazir, Amitabh Bachchan said, “Jo beet gayi so baat gayi. There are too many things that happen. You can’t keep mulling over what’s already happened.”
A few years ago, it was reported that after Piku, Deepika and Amitabh would be reuniting on screen for the Hindi remake of Anne Hathaway starrer The Intern. While there are no updates about that film, fans are eagerly waiting to watch the duo on screen in Kalki 2898 AD.
Directed by Nag Ashwin, the trailer of the film was released earlier this month and it will be a futuristic take on the Mahabharat. The cast includes Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani.
Amitabh Bachchan will be playing the role of Ashwatthama in Nag Ashwin’s film. During the pre-release event, Big B opened up about his first reaction when he was offered the role of Ashwatthama. “When Nag Ashwin came and explained his idea to me, for the long time after he left I was thinking, ‘what the hell is Nagi drinking?’” Amitabh said.
“To see something like this which is absolutely outrageous, some of the visuals that you have seen are unbelievable. To have somebody conceive a project which is so futuristic and possible… and during the making of the film you realise that no matter what he thought of he actually brought all the material, all the effects, every kind of vision that he had to the screen and that’s been really amazing. For me to be just a part of it, has been an experience I’ll never forget,” the veteran actor added.
Kalki 2898 AD will hit theatres on June 27, 2024.
