LR Eswari is one of the most accomplished Indian playback singers to date. She has many hits to her credit, including songs in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, Tulu and English. One of her most famous tracks is the song Pattathu Rani from the film Sivandha Mann. Reportedly, the music composer of Pattathu Rani, MS Viswanathan has roped in LR Eswari to sing this track. MS Viswanathan believed that only LR Eswari could sing this number. CV Sridhar, the writer and director of Sivandha Mann thought otherwise. He reportedly told MS Viswanathan, that instead of LR Eswari, P Susheela would be the perfect artist to sing this number. Both the director and the music composer reportedly indulged in this argument for a long time when MS Viswanathan took a decision. He said that if P Susheela sings, he will not render the music for this track. After listening to this decision, CV Sridhar left the place. At this point, LR Eswari was recording the song Pattathu Rani in the studio. Reportedly, she must have seen both the director and music composer discussing something and asked the latter about it.
MS Viswanathan didn’t tell her the actual story; instead he said that the director asked her to start the song with the sound of humming. In an interview with a portal, MS Viswanathan revealed that LR Eswari surprised him by recording the entire song in one take. According to him, LR Eswari opined that the track Pattathu Rani should be sung from the stomach (breathe into your abdomen and support your voice from your diaphragm). Kannadasan has penned the lyrics of this track.
LR Eswari was presented with a gold medal by Mrs YG Parthasarathy, dean of Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan group of schools in 2007. She was also nominated for the South Indian International Movie Awards under the best playback singer-female category for the film Mookuthi Amman. RJ Balaji and NJ Saravanan had directed this film, which is currently streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar.
LR Eswari is looking forward to her upcoming project as a singer, titled Thollaikatchi directed by Sadiq Khan.
