Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor couldn’t contain his pride when his son, Ranbir Kapoor, received widespread acclaim for his performance in Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Rockstar’. The 2011 film, often hailed as a turning point in Ranbir’s career, showcased one of his finest performances to date.

In a candid conversation during the ‘Sit with Hit List’ interview, journalist Mayank Shekhar shared a memorable anecdote involving Rishi Kapoor. After the release of ‘Rockstar’, Rishi Kapoor called Mayank not once, but three times. When Mayank finally answered, Rishi proudly said, “I read your ‘Rockstar’ review…”

Mayank had written in his review that since Amitabh Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan, no other star had shown such a remarkable blend of acting talent and star power. Recalling the moment, Mayank shared with Imtiaz Ali that Rishi Kapoor had read the line back to him and proudly added, “Beta toh mera hai,” prompting laughter from Imtiaz.

Rockstar (2011), directed by Imtiaz Ali, is a critically acclaimed Bollywood film that tells the intense and emotional journey of Janardhan Jakhar, aka Jordan, portrayed by Ranbir Kapoor. The film explores the transformative power of love, pain, and music as it follows Jordan’s rise from a naive, aspiring musician to a tortured rockstar whose life spirals out of control.

Set against a backdrop of raw emotions and captivating music, Rockstar is known for its powerful storytelling, stunning visuals, and an unforgettable soundtrack composed by A.R. Rahman. The film delves into themes of heartbreak, self-discovery, and the price of fame, making it one of Imtiaz Ali’s most poignant works.

Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Jordan is widely regarded as one of his best performances, capturing the character’s complex emotional journey with depth and authenticity. The film also featured Nargis Fakhri as Heer, the love interest who plays a pivotal role in Jordan’s transformation.

Rockstar stands out not only for its narrative but also for its musical score, with songs like ‘Nadaan Parindey’ and ‘Sadda Haq’ becoming iconic anthems. Imtiaz Ali’s direction, combined with Rahman’s music and Ranbir Kapoor’s powerful performance, has made ‘Rockstar’ a modern classic in Indian cinema.
