The Tamil film industry has produced many films that have impressed the audience and the critics. Many such films brought many actors and actresses into the limelight. Despite impressing the audience, there are many of them who left the film industry after doing just one film. One such actress was Roshini, who starred in 1991’s hit film Guna. The film starred Kamal Haasan in the lead role, and it was directed by Santhana Barathi. It was found that the actress did just one film and disappeared from the film industry after Guna. The film Guna is once again in the news after the recently-released hit film Manjummel Boys made a reference to the Guna cave.
Roshini, who played Abirami in Guna, was one of the most celebrated artists when she first came on screen. She was among the first actresses to come from Mumbai to do films in the South Indian film industry. While the film had started its pre-production, the makers of Guna were looking for an actress who could pull off the role. Initially, they approached Sridevi as Kamal Haasan and her pairing had impressed the audience in Sadma. Sridevi rejected the offer. After that, the makers approached many popular heroines, but things couldn’t materialise.
Soon, Kamal Hassan and Santhana Barathi got to know about Roshini through model coordinators in Mumbai. It was found that Roshini was about to leave for the US due to studies but decided to do the film when approached by the producers. The film proved to be an important milestone in Kamal Hassan’s career, and the unconventional onscreen charisma chemistry between Kamal Hassan and Roshini was never portrayed before in Tamil films. Kamal Hassan was interested in Roshini’s fresh and western appearance compared to other established actresses of the time. Their on-screen pairing was a hit with the audience.
It was also reported that Roshini did some TVCs after Guna, but refused to be a part of any film. As per reports, it was found that the former actress got married and has been living in the USA with her family.
