Anushka Sharma Reveals Kareena Kapoor Inspired Her To Start Acting: 'I Saw Geet In Jab We Met...'

Anushka Sharma is one of the most talented actresses in Bollywood today. She made her acting debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the romantic drama Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in 2008. Since then, she has given many stellar performances in superhit films like Band Baaja Baraat, Dil Dhadakne Do and Sultan to name a few. She earlier revealed that it was Kareena Kapoor Khan who inspired her to become an actress.

Speaking to Rajeev Masand in an older interview, Anushka said, “The first time I wanted to be an actress ever was after I saw Jab We Met. So, for me, it was basically about, when I’m doing a film with you, it has to be a glorious experience. I told him (Imtiaz Ali), ‘That’s the reason why… if I’m doing a film with you, it has to be that film. You are the person who made me think that this is interesting.’ When I saw Geet, when I saw Kareena in the film, I was like oh, this is nice, maybe I could do this.”

Anushka recalled this while promoting her film Jab Harry Met Sejal, headlined by Shah Rukh and directed by Imtiaz Ali. Imtiaz’s Jab We Met has become a classic film, loved by everyone across generations. The film featured Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan in lead roles. The film remains one of the most talked about films of both actors’ careers.

While the film receives immense love from the audience till today, Imtiaz revealed in a recent interview that he was embarrassed by the film. “I knew there was something good about it even then, but I was always embarrassed about the story. Because it is a film about nothing (in terms of plot). What is it? How do I sell or pitch it? I didn’t know if it was worth pursuing. Also, it is a highly rejected film, in terms of acting, producing etcetera,” he said.
