Article 370 Box Office Collection: Yami Gautam's Political Drama Stands At Rs 36 Crore

Article 370 is going steady with its box office collection. On its fifth day, the Yami Gautam-starrer matched its Monday figures as it made Rs 3.25 crore on Tuesday, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. So far, the movie has collected Rs 29.40 crore in India. With an overseas collection of ₹5.4 crore and the India gross box office at ₹30.6 crore, Article 370 has managed to collect ₹36 crore worldwide so far. Interestingly, the film has no major competition at the box office right now. The only other film on the silver screen is Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon’s Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya. Industry experts think that Article 360 will turn out to be a hit.

National Award-winning filmmaker Aditya Jambhale directed this political drama about the much-controversial revocation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. The film has Yami Gautam in the lead role. She plays Zooni Haksar, an intelligence agent. It also has Priyamani, Divya Seth Shah, Vaibhav Tatwawadi, Arun Govil, Kiran Karmarkar, and Raj Zutshi in pivotal roles.

Recently, Gautam spoke to PTI about the film’s critics and said that she sees no point in justifying the movie to those who have already labelled it as ‘propaganda’. She added, “Any section that goes into theatres already thinking or carrying a preconceived notion that this is what it’s about, you’ll never be able to feel or enjoy the film. There is no point in justifying the film to them. I don’t think the audience thinks about these things. This film is for the majority of the audience and we make films for the audience.”

She also described the film’s script as ‘compelling’ and felt that ‘it must be brought to cinema’. She added, “I’m someone who goes a lot by my first instinct. If I don’t connect with the story or script, I don’t try and convince myself to do it. Whenever I have felt good right after reading a script, I don’t think my audience has ever failed me.”

Article 370, comes after many political films such as The Kashmir Files, The Kerala Story, and The Tashkent Files. All of them have been criticised for falsifying the facts but emerged as profitable films at the box office.
