In the last couple of years, massy films like Animal, Pathaan, Jawan, Pushpa have worked wonders at the box office. Meanwhile, Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki and Prabhas’s Salaar also clashed at the box office, both led by two massy actors and masters of their own trade. Opening about this, Dunki actor Vikram Kochhar weighed upon people’s inclination towards massy cinema as well as box office clash between Shah Rukh Khan and Prabhas starrers.
During an interview with Bollywood Now, Vikram Kochhar shared his thoughts on the recent surge of massy cinema and their popularity, “There are a lot of action-thrillers that are working these days, and a lot of people want to watch them. But this also depends on the political scenario of a given time. Look at how many wars are going on around the world. People are frustrated, angry, hateful, these feelings are prevalent. Everybody has vengeance in their heart, but they don’t think about where this will take them,” he explained.
He added, “A friend of mine was telling me recently that a lot of people are craving power, but they don’t know how to execute it. When they see it on the big screen, their dreams are fulfilled. On the other hand, films have a responsibility towards the audience also. Only then can they be considered great. Look at Satyajit Ray’s films, there’s a reason for that… Masses don’t want to see this. But if the masses are irrational that doesn’t mean they should be given what they want. If they want to see someone’s throat being slit, you show it to them. Then you’re just amplifying certain things that you shouldn’t.”
Vikram Kochhar was part of Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki. The film has now crossed the $5 million (close to Rs 34 crore) gross mark in North America. Earlier this year, Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Jawan also crossed the $5 million mark in North America. This means that SRK now has three films that have crossed the mark in a single year. With this, King Khan has become the first actor in the history of Indian cinema to deliver three $5+ million grosses in a single calendar year in North America.
Released on December 21, Dunki features an ensemble cast including Boman Irani, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Vikram Kochhar, and Anil Grover along with Shah Rukh Khan. The film follows the emotional journey of a group of friends who want to move abroad. The plot follows the exciting journey of those who choose an unconventional route known as the Donkey Flight, showing the difficulties they face on their way.
Meanwhile, a special screening of Dunki will be held in Mumbai today i.e. on December 28 for representatives of several countries, including the US, the UK, France, South Korea and Australia. The representatives of Belgium, Germany, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Spain, Turkey, and the Netherlands are also expected to attend the event.
