The strong showing against the Lankan Lions earned India a 302-run win, which made skipper Rohit the first captain to register two ODI wins by a margin of 300 runs. Rohit’s other mammoth win also came against Sri Lanka as India registered a 317-run win over the neighbours.

Batting first, Rohit started the innings with a boundary but was dismissed by Dilshan Madhushanka in the very next delivery. However, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli notched up an incredible 189-run stand for the second wicket before Gill was sent back to the hut after having scored 92 runs in a run-a-ball-innings.

Kohli made 88 runs before walking back to the dugout, also dismissed by Madhushanka. But, the Indian batting had another big performance from Shreyas Iyer, who made 82 runs off just 56 deliveries to help India to the big total.

The India bowling unit more than held up their end of the deal with a sterling performance with the ball as pacer Mohammed Shami delivered a stunning spell that earned him 5 wickets for a mere 18 runs.

Shami ripped through the Sri Lankan resistance as he picked up yet another fifer in the ICC event and became the nation’s highest wicket-taker at the World Cup.

Fellow pacer Mohammed Shami removed three Sri Lankan batsmen from the crease, while Jasprit Bumrah and spinner Ravindra Jadeja polished off the rout with a wicket each to their names.

India became the first team to book its passage into the knock phase of the tournament on home soil with the statement performance.
