After defeating England in a Test match a few days ago, the Indian women’s cricket team is gearing up for another red-ball assignment on home soil. The Indian middle-order batters appeared in sublime form against England. Though the opening pair of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma were dismissed early, the hosts managed to produce a huge 428 runs in their first innings.
As many as four players including all-rounder Deepti Sharma registered 60-plus scores, while captain Kaur missed her half-century by just one run. In reply, England faced a rare batting collapse and wrapped up their innings for 136 runs. Deepti continued his swashbuckling form with the ball, claiming a five-wicket haul. India declared their second innings at 186 runs after Kaur scored an unbeaten 44. The English batting order once again collapsed like a deck of cards as the visitors ended up losing the match by 347 runs.
