Mission Raniganj Box Office Day 1: Akshay Kumar Beats Thank You For Coming, Dono; Earns Rs 2.80 Cr
Akshay Kumar's Mission Raniganj clashed at the box office with Thank You For Coming and Dono.

Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra starrer Mission Raniganj finally hit theatres on October 6. Despite getting mixed reviews from both, the audiences and the critics, the film has started slow at the box office. As reported by the industry tracker Sacnilk, early estimates suggest that Mission Raniganj earned Rs 2.80 crore at the box office.

Reportedly, Mission Raniganj had an overall 11.83% Hindi occupancy on Friday, October 06. While morning shows had an occupancy of 9.84%, it increased to close to 18% in the night shows. However, it will be interesting to see if earnings for Mission Raniganj will increase on Saturday and Sunday.

It should also be noted that Mission Raniganj clashed at the box office with Thank You For Coming which earned only Rs 80 lakh at the box office on its opening day. Rajveer Deol and Paloma Dhillon’s Dono, which also hit theatres on October 6, earned merely Rs 35 lakh.

Mission Raniganj is inspired by a real-life incident and presents the heroic act of the late Shri Jaswant Singh Gill who led Bharat’s coal mine rescue mission. Singh (portrayed by Akshay Kumar) played a significant role in rescuing all the surviving miners trapped inside a flooded coal mine in Raniganj in November 1989 which is documented to be the world’s largest and successful rescue mission against all odds.

News18 Showsha’s review of the movie reads, “Mission Raniganj, expectedly, rests on Akshay Kumar’s shoulders, and he underplays the heroism beautifully, bringing quiet but steely resolve to the character, even delivering the stray note of humor almost conversationally. There’s almost none of his starry baggage in this performance, which easily counts among his best. On the other hand, Parineeti Chopra who plays his wife (Nirdosh Gill) doesn’t have any screen time and hardly has anything to do in the film. Ravi Kishen, Inaamulhaq, and Jameel Khan among others who play the miners are decent.”
