The police on August 9 reported that a 34-year-old graphic designer allegedly took the life of his 28-year-old girlfriend by drowning her in a bucket of water at her residence in Naigaon. Worse, following this horrific act, the man’s wife aided him in concealing the body by placing it inside a suitcase.
The duo, along with their two-year-old daughter, then traveled over 150 kilometers on a scooter and disposed of the body near a creek in Valsad, Gujarat.
According to report in The Times of India report, Manohar Shukla was apprehended early on Tuesday from his residence in Evershine, Vasai. His wife, Poornima, was arrested later. The crime came to light during the investigation into a missing person report filed by the victim’s sister mid-August.
During interrogation, Manohar confessed that he took the life of Naina Mahat, a hairstylist, as she had declined to withdraw two complaints against him for rape and assault that were filed in 2019.
Back in 2013, Mahat and Manohar were neighbors in Vasai. Their romantic involvement began a year later. In 2018, he entered into marriage with Poornima but continued the affair. In early 2019, when Poornima discovered the affair, she confronted them about it.
Nearly a month after the missing complaint was filed by Nahat’s sister, cops nabbed the accused as there was no CCTV footage of her leaving her building after entering it with him on August 9.
According to cops, after Shukla confessed to the murder, their counterparts in Valsad confirmed they found a decomposed body last month after Shukla confessed to the murder. The body was later identified based on a tattoo based. Cops have, however, decided to take a DNA test and matching samples with her sister.
