A yellow alert has been issued in Mumbai by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). According to the MET department, the city is likely to is likely to receive heavy rainfall till September 18.
Apart from Mumbai, an Orange alert has been issued for districts like Thane and Palghar, which may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall on September 17.
An orange alert is issued in case of extremely bad weather where transportation services can also be disrupted. The district administration has so far not issued any advisory for college and school closure.
According to a TOI report, a “well marked” low pressure area’ is created over North-West Bay Of Bengal and adjoining North Odisha West Bengal. The low pressure is likely to move towards Chhattisgarh and Odisha in next two days, mentioned a MET official.
Yesterday, Navi Mumbai and Thane witnessed isolated heavy rain spells but IMD also pointed that as weekend approaches, the intensity of spells can increase.
In a press release dated September 14, IMD informed, “Light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorm & lightning with isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Konkan & Goa, ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during 15th – 18th and Marathwada during 14th-17th September; Gujarat Region during 16th-18th and Saurashtra on 17th & 18th September.”
While very heavy rainfall over Konkan & Goa, ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat Region during 16th-18th and Marathwada on 16th September are expected, observed the release.
DELHI
Rain with gusty winds lashed Delhi and National Capital Region on Friday morning. Waterlogging was witnessed in several parts of the national capital.
The weather department has forecast generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall in Delhi over the next five days. On Thursday, the maximum temperature settled four notches above the season’s average at 37.6 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was recorded at 27.8 degrees.
The MeT department has forecast moderate rains with a generally cloudy sky during the day while the maximum temperature will be around 32 degrees Celsius.
Waterlogging was witnessed in several parts of the national capital, slowing down the early morning vehicular traffic.
Traffic jams were witnessed outside the Akshardham Temple Metro Station and on various road stretches including Vikas Marg.
Many areas including Sangam Vihar faced waterlogging the inconvenienced the locals.
The Delhi traffic police issued an alert saying that traffic was affected on Rohtak Road on both the carriageways from Rajdhani Park towards Tikri Border.
It advised the commuters to plan their journey in view of affected traffic due to waterlogging.
