Ranbir Kapoor's On-screen Sister Saloni Batra Calls His Character TOXIC In Animal
Saloni Batra defends Animal against the criticisms saying the director aims to entertain and not preach.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal is a critical and commercial success. The film has grossed over Rs 300 crore and is running successfully. While most people are praising Ranbir Kapoor’s performance in the film, many have criticised the character’s traits. In the latest, Saloni Batra, who plays his elder sister in the film, gave her thoughts on the film and the controversies regarding Ranbir’s character being called toxic.

Addressing that criticism around the film, Saloni Batra, in an interview with DNA, said, “I am a facilitator. It’s my job as an actor to facilitate what an artist wants to bring to the table, who are the creators.” Saloni added that the creators had a vision of this character whose demeanour and nature are “toxic.” But the film is about him, and the director decided to tell it in his own unique style. The actress mentioned, “As an audience, it is our responsibility to watch and decide what is right and wrong. If that character is firing a gun in college, it doesn’t mean it’s right.”

The actress further stated that Ranbir’s character in Animal was not intended to inspire people and was only created to entertain. She stated, “The director is not being a teacher. He is an entertainer.” She stressed that it is the audience’s responsibility to not take the negativity of the character with them. “You came to the theatre and were entertained. And that is the job of cinema. You don’t have to learn from it. You don’t have to take it back home and tell people that it’s ok to say such things to women,” added Saloni.

The actress also mentioned that, as a woman, she would be offended if she faced a person like Ranbir’s character in real life, but as a matter of fact, such people exist, and this story is one of them.

Moreover, during the interview, when asked if the sequel to Animal was on the cards, Saloni shared, “I hope it is happening. And we will all know for sure very soon.”

Animal was released in theatres worldwide on December 1 and stars Rashmika Manddana, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Triptii Dimri, and others. The plot revolves around an unstable father-son relationship. Vijay, played by Ranbir Kapoor, is portrayed as an anti-hero who will go to any length to defend his father which is played by Anil Kapoor.
