Ryan Gosling DISAPPOINTED as Oscars Snubs Margot Robbie for Best Actress: 'No Ken Without Barbie'
Ryan Gosling was not happy to learn that Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig were not nominated for their work in Barbie at the Oscars 2024.

Ryan Gosling has called out The Academy for snubbing Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig for Barbie at the Oscars 2024. The Oscars 2024 nominations were announced on Tuesday, January 23, and it was revealed that while Ryan Gosling has been nominated for Best Actor and America Ferrera for Best Supporting Actress, The Academy snubbed Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig in the Best Actress and Best Director categories, respectively. However, Barbie has been nominated for Best Film.

Reacting to the nominations, Ryan issued a lengthy statement addressing the snub. The actor, who played the role of Ken, said that there is no Ken if there is no Barbie. “I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films. And I never thought I’d be saying this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken,” he began his statement.

“But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film. No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius. To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement,” Ryan added, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

“Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history. Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees,” he said.

The actor concluded his statement by saying, “Having said that. I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making this such a groundbreaking film.”

The Academy announced that Annette Bening (Nyad), Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon), Sandra Hüller (Anatomy of a Fall), Carey Mulligan (Maestro) and Emma Stone (Poor Things) have been nominated for the Best Actress. Meanwhile, Justine Triet (Anatomy of a Fall), Martin Scorsese (Killers of the Flower Moon), Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer), Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things) and Jonathan Glazer (The Zone of Interest) have been nominated for Best Director.
