Sam Manekshaw's Daughter Maya REACTS To Vicky Kaushal's Film: 'Saw It Twice, Teared Up When...'
Maya Manekshaw said that she saw Vicky Kaushal's Sam Bahadur twice and teared up both times.

Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur is finally out amid much anticipation and has been receiving rave reviews. Some fans even think that the actor could receive a National Award for his stellar portrayal of India’s first Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw. Recently, at an event, Sam Manekshaw’s daughter Maya also expressed her appreciation for Vicky’s film and revealed that it brought tears to her eyes.

Maya told The Indian Express, “They have made the film to make the country proud of whatever it was. But, the time that I tear up, every time, I’ve seen the film twice now and I teared up both times, is the last two seconds of the film when you turn to the audience and you’re smiling. That just kills me every time.”

Sam Bahadur is directed by Meghna Gulzar of Raazi fame and also features performances from Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Sheikh. Sam Bahadur explores the life of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, emphasising his sacrifices for the nation. The film pays a heartfelt tribute to his unwavering bravery and sharp wit. For the unversed, Sam Manekshawan’s career in the army spanned over four decades and five wars. He was the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of Field Marshal and his military victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak war led to the creation of Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, News18’s review of the film reads, “Sam Bahadur seamlessly blends duty, patriotism, and determination which are rich fodder for any film. The scale of the meticulously structured period narrative is grand as it shuns the trappings of a Bollywood biopic. But that certainly isn’t the film’s sole strength. The brilliantly lensed biopic also draws power from lead actor Vicky Kaushal who sinks its teeth completely into the character so much so that there are many times you’d feel that you forget the actor and almost feel that late field marshal, Sam Manekshaw himself is on the big screen. Kaushal’s intense and intuitive performance presents an incredible tale of a man who loved his uniform and his army more than anything else. It is the actor’s best performance, even better than Sardar Udham…”
