Shah Rukh Khan’s Swades co-star Gayatri Joshi and her husband Vikas Oberoi were reportedly involved in a major car accident which left an elderly couple dead. The tragic accident took place in Italy. Gayatri confirmed the news of accident to Free Press Journal and said that she and her husband were doing “absolutely fine”.
According to media reports, it was a multiple-car collision in Sardinia. “Vikas and I are in Italy. We met with an accident here… With gods grace, we both are absolutely fine,” she was quoted as saying by the portal.
The report also stated that the collision took place when several high-performance vehicles, including a Lamborgini and Ferrari, attempted to overtake the camper van at the same time, which led to the tragic fire in the Ferrari, resulting in the loss of the lives of an elderly couple inside, identified as Melissa Krautli, 63, and Markus Krautli, 67, from Switzerland.
Gayatri bagged the Femina Miss India International in 2000 and made her acting debut with Ashutosh Gowariker’s Swades. She starred opposite Shah Rukh Khan as Geeta in the critically-acclaimed movie. Despite earning much appreciation for her performance in the movie, Gayatri made an abrupt exit from Bollywood. She tied the knot with businessman Vikas Oberoi in 2005 and the couple shares two kids together.
Even though Gayatri left Bollywood several years ago, she is often seen in Mumbai. Last year, she and Vikas were spotted with Hrithik Roshan, Sussanne Khan, Sonali Bendre and her husband Goldie Behl on a lunch outing in the city.
