Sam Curran made a home coming to Punjab Kings after he was picked by the franchise for a record sum of Rs 18.5 crores

The IPL 2023 auction saw some records going for a toss with all-rounders Sam Curran, Ben Stokes and Cameron Green getting huge amount of money.

While the all-rounders got some big bucks, cricket analyst Jamie Alter said that he wasn’t really surprised that the all-rounders bagged huge sums during the mini auction.

“The IPL and the T20 format in the last few years has all been about all-rounders. I think the West Indies who have won the T20 World Cup twice, their core was all-rounders. The IPL has learnt that. The Indian cricket system needs more all-rounders coming through,” Jamie Said.

“So, this was always going to be an IPL auction about the all-rounders and no surprises there. The IPL has always crushed on these light-eyed, light-haired, overseas all-rounders. Someone like a Shane Watson. So I’m not surprised that these guys (Sam Curran, Ben Stokes, Cameron Green) have got received big sums,” he added.

Curran made a home coming to Punjab Kings after he was picked by the franchise for a record sum of Rs 18.5 crores while Stokes was roped in by the Chennai Super Kings for Rs 16.25 cr.

Another all-rounder Cameron Green was among the big buys after he was included by the Mumbai Indians for Rs 17.5 cr. Green is being viewed as a perfect replacement for someone like a Kieron Pollard who was earlier released by MI. The Caribbean player later announced his retirement from IPL.
