Tom Hollander Recalls He Accidentally Received Tom Holland's 7-Figure Avengers Bonus
Despite Tom Hollander's successful career, he found himself in a peculiar situation when he unintentionally received Tom Holland's bonus pay slip for an Avengers movie.

Tom Hollander, known for his roles in Pirates Of The Caribbean, The Night Manager and The White Lotus season 2, has experienced an amusing mix-up with Spider-Man star Tom Holland in the past. Despite Hollander’s successful career, he found himself in a peculiar situation when he once unintentionally received Holland’s bonus pay slip for an Avengers movie. The British actor, 29 years senior and with a last name two letters longer than Holland, often faces mistaken identity, even within the accounts department of their shared agency. While appearing on Late Night With Seth Meyers, the senior actor recalled a time when they briefly belonged to the same agency. Hollander humorously shared the agency’s slip up, after they sent him Holland’s astonishing paycheck.

He explained, “It’s been very difficult. I was here first but he’s enormously famous. People in the accounts department of my agency got confused and we were with the same agency briefly and it was a terrible moment. I went to see my friend who was doing theatre in England, for £300 a week, but doing great work and I sat smugly in the audience, having just done a BBC show for 30 grand or something, which was, you know, going to get me through the next year or so. And I was thinking, ‘Well, this is marvellous. I’m very prosperous’."

“Then the interval came and I thought I’d check my e-mails and I got an email from the agency saying, ‘Payment advice, your first box office bonus for The Avengers.’ And I thought, ‘I don’t think I’m in The Avengers.’ It was an astonishing amount of money and it was not his salary. It was his first box office bonus, not the whole box office, the first one and it was more money than I’ve ever seen. It was a seven figure sum. He was 20 or something. So my feeling of smugness that you remember I had in the first half disappeared very quickly. But that’s showbiz. It’s up, it’s down, it’s hero, it’s zero," Tom Hollander humorously shared.

In a further conversation with Seth Meyers, Tom Hollander shared instances when he was frequently mistaken for Tom Holland, particularly in non visual contexts. He clarified that although he doesn’t get mistaken for Tom Holland visually, in situations like dealing with utility companies, there’s a frequent mix up. People assume he’s Holland, leading to amusing conversations where he corrects them about his last name. The White Lotus star also recounted encounters with excited individuals introducing him to their children as the Marvel superstar, only to witness the disappointment when the children realise it’s not the young star.

Meanwhile, Tom Holland rose to fame for playing the iconic Peter Parker/Spider-Man in various successful Marvel films such as Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home. He’s currently gearing for the fourth Spider Man movie. On the other hand, Tom Hollander is all set to showcase his acting skills as Truman Capote in Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans, scheduled to premiere on January 31.
