CBSE Board Exam 2024: Marking Scheme and Other Key Changes Announced
CBSE has announced several modifications in the board exams 2024 with the aim to enhance the exam experience for students and introduce a more dynamic and inclusive approach

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially announced some key alterations to the board exam pattern for the upcoming academic year, responding to valuable feedback from stakeholders. These modifications aim to enhance the examination experience for students and introduce a more dynamic and inclusive approach.

1. Answer Book Format in Accountancy Subject

In a strategic move, the CBSE has decided to eliminate the specialised answer books previously utilised in the subject of Accountancy. This decision will eliminate the tables-inclusive answer books that were given to candidates earlier.

“It is informed that from Board Examination, 2024 CBSE based on feedback received from stakeholders has decided to do away with the Answer Books wherein tables were provided in the subject of Accountancy. From Examinations-2024, normal lines Answer Books as provided in other subjects in Class 12 will be provided in Accountancy subject also,” the official notification reads.

2. No More Division, Distinction, or Aggregate Announcements

In response to numerous requests from candidates seeking clarity on percentage calculation criteria, the CBSE has announced that it will not confer overall division, distinction, or aggregate marks to Class 10 and Class 12 students in 2024. This step is taken to provide a fair and transparent assessment without categorising students based on broad distinctions.

3. Special Arrangements for Sports and Olympiad Participants

Recognising the commitment of students participating in national or international sports events and Olympiads, CBSE has introduced a special examination provision. This ensures that such students, who may be unable to take the scheduled exams, can appear at a later date.

However, it’s important to note that no separate opportunities will be provided for compartment and practical exams.

To be eligible for this provision, students must be engaged in sports recognised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI). Similarly, participation in Olympiads must be recognised by the Homi Bhabha Center for Science Education (HBCSE).

4. Release of Sample Question Papers and Marking Scheme

CBSE has published a comprehensive set of 60 sample question papers for Class 10 and 77 for Class 12, available for review on the official website – cbseacademic.nic.in. The marking scheme accompanies these papers, providing students with a valuable resource for exam preparation.

5. Transformational Curriculum Framework and Biannual Board Exams

Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan announced the introduction of the new curriculum framework (NCF) aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Textbooks for the same will reportedly be developed for academic session 2024.

Starting from the 2024 academic session, board exams will be conducted twice a year, allowing students to retain their best scores.

The NCF also emphasises flexibility, enabling Class 11 and 12 students to study two languages, with at least one being Indian. Subject choices will no longer be confined to traditional streams and students with have greater autonomy in this regard.
