The state votes on November 17. “The money will come again on November 10…this time there are elections so I won’t be able to give the money in the same way as earlier (signalling click of a button), but I will give it,” Chouhan said in Jhabua on Wednesday, mentioning the scheme under which 1.32 crore women in the state are transferred Rs 1,250 on the 10th of every month. This month, however, the money under the scheme was transferred early, on October 4, in anticipation of the announcement of the election schedule, which happened on October 9.
“They (Congress) are just jealous and worried,” said Chouhan. “But no one can stop the money, and it will come again on the 10th. I have kept the money aside before the model code of conduct came into effect. I will put the money in your account on November 10th. Why should I not give the money?”
He warned people that if the Congress comes to power, it may stop such schemes as it had done earlier with his programmes after winning the 2018 polls.
The Congress has also promised a Rs 1,500 allowance per month for women in the state.
A BJP functionary said that since the Mukhyamantri Ladli Behna Yojana was an ongoing scheme approved by the state cabinet, a Congress challenge before the ECI regarding the next instalment payout may not stand. However, former chief minister Kamal Nath last month asked if the scheme’s money would be given since the election model code was coming into effect from October.
